The Pretty Reckless- You. As we are doing a music video we are keeping the title of the song as it fits with the lyrics and we are only creating a video not changing the lyrics.
Channel For Broadcast:
As this song is more suitable for an older audience and a certain type of genre; rock/ grunge the channels suitable for this music video would be Kerrang or MTV Rocks as it is not the stereotypical music that is played for everybody such as pop. This would be played on these channels due to the message of the song being quite dark and a negative song about love. On many of the channels for broadcast they display happy, mood filling songs to make people feel good about life. Whereas on these channels the messgaes are about death, love, drugs and abuse, something our song relates to.
Target Audience:
Our target audience for this music video tends to be female teenagers aged about 16-18 years old, due to them thinking they have a similarity with the song as it is about male drama and death etc. Girls look up to songs like 'You' and feel like they can relate, therefore the video needs to be able created carefully so the young girls can relate to the situation. The lower class would be more suitable to this video and the song because they may be more depressed about the life they live such as less wealth and not being able to fund for their lives so they result to drugs and violence. The other classes would be less likely to listen/ watch the video because they are quite positive people and do not associate themselves with harmful things or negative discussions. Caucasian ethnics would prefer this music video more than other ethnicites as they prefer other genres due to it relating more to their lives. Stereotypically Black people would prefer R'N'B and Hip-Hop as they sing/ rap about being lower class, wanting to be successful and inequalities. The right class for this would be C2/D. C2 is skilled manual working class people and D is the semi and unskilled manual workers. This music video would be of this class because they are a working family whom do not have the luxurires of the upper class. As well as the message is not emphasising wealth and power. The lead singer of the band Taylor Momsen has been questioned about her sexuality, as she may be bisexual due to some of her lyrics and actions within her songs. Therefore people whom are unsure of their sexuality or know they are homosexual and can relate with the lyrics. The disability and regional identity of the listener would not be an issue with this music video because it does not effect the meaning of the song.Genre:
The video 'You' will be a mixture of both a performance based and narrative, however majority of it will be a narrative as it goes through the relationship with an ex and many flashbacks which she sings about. We have decided to do this because we wanted to have a range of shots and make it different by not seeing it as a film as the viewers would want to see the artist and her sing as it makes the video feel more real.
Style:
Me and Lauren have came up with a range of effects and ideas that could make the video more interesting to watch. Fades will be used to go from one shot to another to make the video flow continously, dissolves may be used to show the male boyfriend disappear in certain flashbacks and speed such as slow motion will be used at the start to skip long walks. As well as these types of effects we want the flashbacks to be in a different colour/ lighting so the audience can identify the areas which are not present.
