Today, we looked at three music videos in detail and discussed as a class the strengths, weaknesses, things to do and what not to do. Watching the example work was to help influence us and inform the class what to do and what not to do. From watching the exemplar videos we rated the product and it helped us know what to do in order to get the best grade. Once we had watched the videos it was clear that we needed to look over our storyboard and make sure we knew what we were doing in every shot.
Amerie- One thing
The first music video discussed was Amerie- One thing. It is song in the a RNB genre and we overall marked it as a level 2 because it had some good features however there were many aspects that did not follow the codes and conventions and did not use enough features . There was a range of locations used however the video was poorly executed with no synchronisation and no flow between shots.

Strengths:
- Some words anchorage with the actions
- Range of locations
- Unsteady camera
- Titles were not professional and not presented as if it was broadcasted on tv.
- No synchronicity within the actions or in sync with lyrics.
- Poor choreography
- No Flow- there was a pause in the video as the main performer was confused what her next step was.
- Off Frame
- Inappropriate costume
- Titles smaller and located in bottom left
- New actress
- Channel logo
- Clearer shots
- Bookend
- Needs to be visually appealing
- No titles so would not be able to recognise song
- No relevance of words and shots
- Boring
- The shots were very long roughly 8 seconds when should only be 5 max
- 8 shots used repeatedly
- 3 locations- 2 in the same place
- Have titles
- Text anchorage with shots
- Effects
- Perhaps someone singing
- Different locations
- Main singer not to have confidence
- Be a boring video
Weaknesses:
Things to do:
Bob Marley- Don't Worry
This video was scored the lowest out of the three at a level one. This was marked harshly because it had not obeyed the codes or conventions of a music video and used the same eight shots repeatedly. As well as this many of the shots had no reference to the lyrics.
Strengths:

There was not many positive points within this music video, except for one anchorage of the image of ducks when the lyrics says ducks.
Weaknesses:
Things to do:
Things not to do:
State of Mind-
After looking at the OCR examples of music videos we were then shown a video on Youtube, of a music video created by university students. This was rewarded the highest level 4, due to its skills in the shots, idea and effects. This one was a lot different to the others we had seen because everything flowed, words matched shots and it was cleverly choreographed. This video gave us inspiration to make our music video the same level of quality.
