Music Video Feedback

As we completed the music video we wanted to get feedback from the class peers to see what they thought about our production. The students watched the production then filled out a review sheet which allowed us to gather the information and create this table. The overall results are shown below.

As you can see there are no 3,4, or 5's in the ratings section which shows the project seems very successful in terms of what the students thought. The first column is the student that responded to the questions. The second is how imaginative and creative the overall production was, our responses for this were exceptional as they all said high imagination and creative flare which me and Lauren were beyond happy with. The next five columns was a rating of certain aspects; one being the best and 5 being poor, thankfully we only got 1's and 2's. There was not many improvements to the product because of such positive feedback, some individuals such as 1 and 8 said  there should be more clips of Grace singing and she should sing earlier. Me and Lauren agreed with the improvements however felt the storyline needed to be set before she could start to sing. The print artifacts were also a big hit with the testers  as they said they looked of a high quality, looked good as it was not images used from the video and there was a lot of creative thinking in this.

Print Artifact: Magazine Advert

This is the final magazine advert for the CD cover. It was mentioned previously in the blog that the final advert was created however from the feedback and our own opinions, me and Lauren were not sure about it. We felt the image should be made large scale to a background and the features on top. All the other features stayed the same however moved to be better positioned on the page. We were told last time that the review font needed to be more edgier as it's from Kerrang. Therefore the font was made more bolder but plain, this same font was also used for the price to keep it consistent.

When doing this print artifact we were not sure which image looked better for the advert. The image accidentally printed flip-horizontally so the image was on the other side. We showed sir and he preferred it, so we decided to print both and ask the class for their views. When doing this today they all agreed that the edited image looked better, as the image was facing the same way as the text and album cover so it was easier to read/ see. We therefore edited this as made it as the final print artifact.

Diary Entry: 12th December

In today's lesson we finished our magazine advert. After printing this last lesson we noticed a couple of errors, so we started the lesson by editing these errors and changed the price font as we felt the size as it did not look right. We printed this and we presented it to other teachers for their opinion. One of the teachers stated some improvements for the advert which we also agreed on. She said that the review quote by Kerrang should be a better edgier and harder as it is a rock conglomerate, at the moment it is quite soft. Another thing she said was some of the text and images needed to be sized done as they over powered the page. We decided to amend this once the production finished.

The next thing that was done was the editing of the production. We decided to edit the walking scene at the end so that it was razored and it would jump to different positions of the walk. As the camera was not still the shots looked odd so we added film dissolves to make the shots flow more however because of the shaky camera the transitions are out of place, but me and Lauren felt it worked well and looked good so we kept it as it added to the effect. As the shots were shorted and some deleted there was empty space at the end so we decided to jump to the singing scene of Grace, however her smiling then looking away to show closure. A dip to black was used to end the production.

Once finishing the effects we added the music logo and the titles. When watching the music video we felt MTV rocks or Kerrang may have been too rocky for this particular music video. 'You' is the softest rock song of The Pretty Reckless as it is soft grunge and about love so we felt it did not fit with the codes and conventions of a hard rock music video usually shown on those music channels. Instead we felt 4 music would be more suitable as it displays a variety of music of different genres and the music video fits with the typical suitable codes. Therefore we browsed the web to find the 4 music logo and got rid of the background on Microsoft Word so that it would be transparent on the video. We imported it, re-sized and positioned it and we felt it looked very well done.

We then added titles. After watching music videos on this channel at home I identified some certain codes and conventions of this channel. The text is situated to the right, the font colour is white and it is in order of Artist, Song and album. We therefore did this also making the font look plain and similar to the one of the channel so that it would look more like a video on this channel. We did not have enough time to add the effects of this text so left it until tomorrows lesson.

Diary Entry: 10th December

Today me and Lauren wanted to make sure our magazine advert was completed and to continue editing our music video.

We started the lesson by finishing the magazine advert, all that was needed to be done was the review quote and the price. However when printing our last version we noticed that it did not print the background colour of black although the printing options were suitably changed. So instead we came up with a new idea today of drawing a black box at the bottom and made all the features in front of the box. Doing this meant the advert kept its format but printed properly. Another feature that was added was the review from Kerrang. We wanted to get a proper  review of the album so decided to browse the web to see what different media institutions stated about the album. Once doing this we inserted the quote and rating stars into our advert. We presented the advert to our teacher and we all agreed on there was a gap at the bottom which looked bare. Lauren then came up with the idea to have a smartphone barcode reader which if scanned it would take the buyer to the pretty reckless website. This is excellent as it shows our technical skills and we did this by finding a website online which was free and easy to input the url and it would create the square code itself. We put this at the bottom in the gap to ensure the page was full but not overcrowded. Another thing we did was get rid of the itunes logo as it is not the codes and conventions to have the hmv and apple logo together.

Moreover once finishing this print artifact we then edited our footage, whilst I was editing the print artifact Lauren added some effects to the production such as feather background to make some of the shots look properly like a flashback. We then edited the last walking shot by changing the brightness and contrast as before it looked dirty and made the filming quality look poor. By doing this it made it look a lot better.  We then showed sir he complimented the footage but said the ending would be better if the speed was not changed but it was razored and jumps to different places on the walk.  We started to do this however did not finish so will continue next lesson.

Diary Entry: 3rd December

In today's lesson we viewed the footage that was filmed in Thursday's lesson. We were thankful that the footage was in the correct format so it was not as blurry like last time. The shots we used were a forward track, panning around Grace and then a still frame showing Grace walking off. In lesson we chose our favourite clip and then inserted into the project.

We edited majority of the shots, changing the brightness and contrast and amended all of our flashbacks so that they looked more like the past. We did this by making the image grainier and blurry to emphasise the shots were in the past. Moreover we edited the ending shot of Grace walking away by razor 4 aspects of the clip and changing the speed and duration of certain shots, we did this so it jumped Grcae walking will looked very effective.

Video transitions between shots were also added to keep the shots flowing, a cube spin was done between the start of the walking and the singing of 'lalala'. This was done as we did not want all the ending to be Grace walking so to change it we decided to alter it so it was some walking, singing then finishes with the walking and then a fade to black.

Next lesson we need to finish adding effects and touch up on our print artifacts and then present them to the class to see their opinion of the print documents to change any documents.
